My name is Maureen C. Scudder, and I am an independent college counselor specializing in application advising. From strategy to submission, I help students get accepted to their dream schools.
I work with undergraduate, graduate, and professional school applicants on their written materials, including personal statements, activities lists, supplemental essays, and med school primary and secondary applications. Throughout the application process, I help clients feel at ease, stay on track, and develop their writing skills.

During my 30-year career in education, I have taught high school and college English, directed a university writing center, worked as a boarding school dorm parent, and served as a school communications director. I have worked as an application advisor for two college counseling firms, including one specializing in med school applications. Through it all, I have worked as a freelance writer and a coach for young writers. Today, as an independent college counselor, I am laser-focused on guiding students through their application process. I am a member of the professional organization New England Association for College Admission Counseling as well as communities on the cutting edge of the ever-changing admissions landscape.
I earned my B.A. in English, M.A. in Africana Studies, and a second M.A. in English. I'm certified to teach English, social studies, and ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have taught in public and private schools both at home in Connecticut and abroad in Asia and Africa. My clients have gone on to colleges and universities such as Amherst, BU, Bucknell, Columbia, Cornell, Emory, Fordham, Georgia Tech, Howard, Northeastern, Notre Dame, MIT, Penn State, Skidmore, Tufts, UChicago, UMich, UNC, UVA, Vassar, Yale, and many more. My med school applicants have gone on to Georgetown, Nova Southeastern, California Northstate, Columbia, Quinnipiac, Virginia Tech, etc.
